7 Years on the Ridge

Our story

Built by hill carpenters, one cottage at a time

Built entirely from timber and local craft, Grand Mirinja sits 1,800 feet above sea level where the fog rolls in before sunrise. Twenty cottages, one open kitchen, endless valley.

The first two cottages went up in a single dry season, built by a crew of carpenters from the villages below the ridge using timber sourced inside the district. Nothing was trucked in from Chittagong except the glass and the wiring. That set the pattern for everything that followed.

Today there are twenty cottages spread along the slope, an open kitchen that cooks over wood, and a viewpoint five minutes uphill that we cleared and kept for guests. The road is still bad, the network still drops in heavy rain, and the fog still arrives before six in the morning between November and January. We have not tried to fix any of that.

How we work

Three things we do not compromise on

Built to belong here

Timber, stone and bamboo sourced within the district, worked by local carpenters. Rainwater harvesting on every roof and solar backup across the property.

Staffed from the valley

Almost everyone who works here lives within an hour of the resort. Our guides grew up on these trails and our kitchen buys from the terraced farms below us.

Quiet, kept quiet

No loudspeakers, no pool parties and a hard rule on noise after ten at night. People come up here to hear the valley, so we protect that.

Sunrise Viewpoint

A cleared platform five minutes uphill, reserved for guests, where the fog lifts off the valley just after six.

Bonfire and Barbecue

Nightly bonfire on the central lawn with live acoustic sessions on weekends and a barbecue counter on request.

Infinity Plunge Pool

A small heated plunge pool cut into the slope, open from sunrise to ten at night.

Guided Hill Treks

Half day and full day treks to Mirinja peak, tribal para villages and the seasonal waterfalls, led by local guides.

Airport and Bus Pickup

Reserved jeep transfers from Chittagong, Cox Bazar and Lama bus stand, arranged when you book.

Runs the resort day to day and has walked every trail around the ridge more times than he can count.

Handles reservations and transfers, and is the voice on the other end when you call to book.

Cooks the bamboo chicken the way his grandmother did, over wood coals and without shortcuts.

What people say after they leave

We booked the Cloud Deck Villa for two nights and did not leave the deck except for meals. The fog arrives around five in the morning and it is genuinely like sitting above a white sea. Staff let us have breakfast outside every day without being asked twice.
