Fog season is shorter than the internet suggests. Here is what the valley actually looks like month by month.
Every photograph you have seen of Mirinja was probably taken in a six week window. The valley is beautiful all year, but the sea of cloud that people travel for has a season.
November to January
This is the window. Cold nights and warm afternoons push fog into the valley overnight, and it sits below the ridge until about nine in the morning. Bring a jacket that actually works, because the temperature drops to single digits some nights.
June to September
Monsoon. The hills turn a green that does not photograph properly, waterfalls appear where there were none, and the resort is at its quietest. Rooms are heavily discounted. Road conditions can be unpredictable after long rain.
February to May
Clear, warm and excellent for trekking. No fog, but the visibility across the ranges is at its best and you can see a long way on a clear afternoon.
